“I’m not claiming FCC and Viscount Plastics have reinvented the wheel, but the way this 47 litre produce crate deep nests to almost have the costs of road freighting empty crates I’d say we have improved it dramatically,“ suggests Hans Wouters, Fruit Case Company (FCC) General Manager.
To retain customers and stay competitive, FCC is committed to taking a proactive stand against escalating freight costs precipitated by influences such as rising oil prices and increased road taxes. Less than a year ago Hans Wouters got together with long-time plastic crate supplier, Viscount Plastics New Zealand, to initiate the development of a 47 litre deep nesting crate that would enable FCC to deliver customers freight savings achieved through pallets carrying double the load of deep nested crates? “A quantity of 47 litre crates that last season would have taken two trucks to deliver can no be loaded onto one. Very definitely a major benefit for growers fed up digging deeper into their capital resources,” suggests Hans Wouters.
“Because this new crate deep nests to just one quarter of its height it also effectively halves storage space requirements. What this means for us is being able to grow our market without having to invest in extra crate storage capacity at our 15 depots nationwide.
